Peter is the founder and long-standing Chair of Ormiston Trust. He established the Trust in 1969 in memory of his sister, Fiona Ormiston Murray, and used his commercial property investment experience to grow an initial £500 donation into a financially strong, proactive grant-making charity. Peter also founded Ormiston Families in 1980, helping it develop charitable programmes across East Anglia, and later sponsored the first Ormiston academy, The Gateway Academy, now part of Gateway Learning Community, in 2009.
Peter’s early voluntary work included the Samaritans, Westminster Volunteer Bureau and All Stars Youth Club, and he was a joint founder of the Association of Charitable Foundations. Peter brings the Trust exceptional founder continuity, philanthropic judgement, property and finance insight, and a deep commitment to young people and families, having worked tireless to advance Ormiston Trust’s vision of enabling young people and families to fulfil their full potential.
