Ormiston Forge Academy recently received an Eco-Schools Green Flag with merit. The Eco-Schools Green Flag is an international accreditation that has been rewarding youth-led environmental action since 1994.
The academy uses a Seven Step Framework as an environmental management system that empowers young people to introduce and lead environmental actions. The project of getting the accreditation has been led by Ormiston Forge students who have done this through an eco-committee. Activities done that are being recognized include raising funds for different causes, Earth Day celebrations and litter picking in the school community. Additionally, students linked the accreditation to curriculum work on the environment including topics such as oil and fossil fuels, rainforests and deforestation.
To celebrate the accreditation the academy has made plans to erect a flagpole to display their new green flag.
