Students from Ormiston New Academy get busy creating gift boxes for children who wouldn’t necessarily receive a gift to open at Christmas. Inspired by their Sixth Form Mentor Miss Evans who had discussed the Operation Christmas Child Appeal, Sixth Form students Amy Trythall, Georgia May Whittaker, Hannah McEnery, Ellie Davies, Elle McNutty and Isobel Sutton decided that they would like to help the cause.
The students spent the weekend decorating boxes and buying gifts for someone they didn’t know who they felt would deserve something special. The gifts ranged from colouring pencils, soft toys to toothbrushes and hair-ties.
The items in the boxes were created for a child within a given age range and were taken to St James’ Church in Fordhouses by Mrs Swift. The boxes would then be distributed throughout the world by the Charity Samaritans Purse to children to open on Christmas Day.
‘A small shoebox can have a big impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal’. – Samaritans Purse Website
