Autumn is here! The weather, trees, plants, and animals are all starting to prepare for winter. Lucky for us, there are some great activities and events on this Autumn to keep us busy and to help us stay in touch with nature.
COP26
In November, the UK is hosting the UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow. This week of panel discussions and international diplomatic meetings is intended to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. There are lots of ways to get involved in the run-up to the Conference. We’ve talked about the Votes for Schools campaign before, and there’s the Together For Our Planet programme too. The public and organisations can nominate #OneStepGreener Ambassadors until the end of September (next week) to become the voice of the public for the government in the lead up to the conference! There’s also a toolkit to help teachers and community leaders to talk about and explain COP26, providing information, resources, and ideas.
The Great Big Green Week (18-26 September)
There are a range of events being run by various organisations this week about climate and the environment. Great Big Green Week is a national week of over 4500 events celebrating action on climate change.
RSPB – 3 panel events are being hosted this week on racial justice, gender identity, and disability rights in relation to climate change and the environment. There’s one tonight (7-8pm) and you can see the recordings of the panels earlier in the week on their website.
Art//COP – UK Youth for Nature are asking citizens in the four nations of the UK to create a series of murals about biodiversity loss. The murals will be placed in cities around the UK, including Manchester, Bristol, Newcastle, and Nottingham.
They’ve got so many more events on in local communities around the UK – have a look at their map or calendar to find ones near you!
