Maritime Futures was developed at Cowes Enterprise College to connect classroom learning with the Isle of Wight’s maritime industry

What young people did
Pupils applied their learning through practical projects, employer engagement and maritime-themed curriculum activities
They explored topics such as boat design, engineering and sustainability, while learning about careers within the maritime sector.

The impact
Students reported that learning felt more relevant, engaging and memorable. The programme has helped raise aspirations, strengthen career awareness and improve engagement with learning. The model has since been shared with schools across coastal communities throughout the UK.

- GCSE Basics 5 outcomes increased from 41% to 50%
- Disadvantaged pupil outcomes increased from 13% to 22%
