Community Allotment
Growing food, skills and community connection
Lansdowne Primary Academy is developing a Community Allotment to transform unused land within the school grounds into a welcoming growing space for pupils, families and the wider community.
With £1,500 funding requested from Ormiston Trust, the project will create raised beds, planting areas, composting facilities and a wildflower area to support biodiversity. The school also hopes to begin developing an outdoor kitchen, where pupils and families can learn how to prepare and cook healthy meals using produce grown on site.

What pupils and families will do
Pupils will take part in planting, maintaining crops, harvesting produce and learning about composting, recycling and environmental responsibility.
Families will be encouraged to join community growing days, creating positive opportunities to spend time in school, connect with staff and other families, and learn practical skills together.
The project will also be supported by the school’s Eco Warrior team, giving pupils a leadership role in shaping and caring for the allotment.
The intended impact
As this is a current Small Grants project, the impact below describes planned outcomes rather than completed results.
The Community Allotment aims to give pupils and families greater access to green space, fresh produce and outdoor learning. It will help children build confidence, teamwork, responsibility and practical life skills, while supporting healthy eating, wellbeing and environmental awareness.
For families and the wider community, the allotment will create a shared space that strengthens relationships between home, school and local residents.
