Students at Sir Stanley Mathews Academy are involved in a number of activities aimed at improving wellbeing by focusing on the mind, body and spirit. The first was the creation of an Academy vegetable patch to encourage students to focus on mindfulness whilst growing crops and being outside in nature. The project also saw the creation of the mental health hub, an area specifically created for students to find support and a safe space. Mental-health campaigning has also been embedded in the student’s PSHE lessons alongside the ‘re-education’ classes which focus on teaching life-skills to both pupils and parents.
